Innovation Plan

Relevant Innovation

This year I plan to introduce my students to digital ePortfolios, or ePortfolios. ePortfolios are an amazing tool for all students, allowing them to take ownership of their learning. ePortfolios encourage accountability, collaboration, and creativity. ePortfolios also equipped students with the 21st-century skills they need to be competitive in our evolving digital world.

Innovation Proposal

As an elective teacher and the only one on my campus who teaches what I teach, I didn’t have the advantage of shared data to expose gaps or areas of growth in my students. So instead, I reflected on what my students shared with me last school year and remembered that most of my students were not clear on how to show or apply their skills. With this information, I decided that ePortfolios would be a great tool to introduce to my students and close the gaps in application.

 Literature Review

While researching information on student ePortfolios, I learned that most students using this tool were college students. I seldom found an article or journal that provided an in-depth analysis reflecting the benefits of ePortfolios specifically for middle school students. However, the available information clearly shows how educators use ePortfolios to challenge students, hold them accountable, foster collaboration, and create lifelong learners.

Implementation Outline

I am excited to share my implementation plan with my administrators and students this upcoming school year. This pilot year will provide me with the experiences and feedback needed to continue to better and grow my innovation plan.
