Hello!
Howdy! My name is Ashleigh Carter Kegler, and I am a digital design teacher in Galena Park ISD. I was raised in Houston, Texas, graduated from North Shore Senior High School, and earned my bachelor's and master's degree from Lamar University. I am currently working on my masters in nonprofit administration at LSUS. I am a wife and mother of one human boy and one fur baby. I love to read, eat, cook, travel and laugh- loudly.
This ePortfolio serves as my teacher website for my GPISD students, families, and colleagues; as well as a digital representation of my graduate research.
My Why
My name is Ashleigh Carter Kegler and I love to create. There are so many life lessons hidden in graphic design like creating the world you want to see, the power of expression, the luxury of revision, and the importance of community and collaboration. These life and professional lessons are vital to all of our daily lives and applying them outside the classroom is critical. In my Innovation Plan, I detail my Big Hairy Audacious Goal and how I plan to implement ePortfolios in my middle school Digital Design class. According to my initial Implementation Outline, I am on track for my students to begin building their portfolios via Wix. I am hopeful that after my initial roll-out and program revision that ePortfolios will be used in every classroom on my campus and eventually every secondary classroom.
I am a Houston native and Lamar University alumnus. I first enrolled at Lamar in August 2006, fast-forward to December 2020, when I received my Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communication. My scenic route through undergrad is a story I love to share with my students. I remind them that we are all flawed and fall short sometimes, but if we persist, we prevail. My 2022-2023 8th graders journeyed with me through my graduate program and we build academic ePortfolios together. The class of 2027 will always hold a special place in my heart. In my personal life, I am a wife, mother, dog mom, educator, crawfish connoisseur, and lover of butter, bacon, and all things Southern. I enjoy cooking, eating, traveling, and laughing out loud. My favorite family pastime is car karaoke; believe me- we are good! Family is vital to my sanity, and I am thankful to have one that doesn't get on my nerves, lol! I love to cook and host my family as often as possible. In 2018 founded a nonprofit, Carter Girls, for girls ages 5-18 years old who have interests in STEM and Fine Arts. Currently, Carter Girls provides funding for girls to attend existing camps, but my long term goal is to own my own facility and host our camps at Camp Carter.
