Contributions to my Learning Community EDLD 5389 & 5318

Updated: Mar 26, 2023

This program has introduced me to so many new practices, and the one that has been most beneficial to me as a learner and educator has been the learning community. At the end of every term, I write, "I don't know where I would be without my learning community," and it's true. This term has been overwhelming, and not because of an unmanageable workload, but because I am almost done, and the senioritis kicked into overdrive. In moments when I wanted to throw in the towel, my tribe, my people, and my community were there to refocus and reposition me back on the path of success. Patrick Rodriguez, Dawn Short, Kristin Winzer, and Veronica Goodly have been my rock since the Summer of 2022, but this term has brought with it a few new and needed supports, Rebecca Rogers and Jennifer Kim. The GroupMe that Dawn started has been vital in my development as a learner and producer. When I am confused or need encouragement or a new pair of eyes to look over something, I can count on our collective GroupMe to get it done. The only downside of this term ending is most of my colleagues in my "original" cohort will be completing their program in May, and I will miss them dearly. However, there are still a few of us that will be graduating in August, and for that, I am grateful.

Contributed to and helped build your core collaboration group.

As a Graphic Design teacher, my wheelhouse and strength and been creating my eP. When others have issues with Wix or WordPress, I am always there to lend a hand or make time for a one-on-one Zoom. This term, I have worked closely with Ms. Veronica, and although she thinks I was the one helping her, her words of encouragement and mostly her weekly prayers always give me that extra oomph that I need.

Provided peer feedback to your core group members.

Since day one, Patrick and I have worked closely due to our having similar innovation plans; we're both focusing on ePortfolios; he is just on a grander scale. Patrick and I have been each others sounding boards for the last four terms, and our collaboration and feedforward sessions have always yielded excellent results.

Revised all assignments and reflected on revisions in this contribution to learning activity.

In 5389, I revised my assignment one and corrected the errors made in my video. In 5318, I was fortunate not to receive any feedback that required me to make significant adjustments to my work.

Completed ALL of the course readings, videos, and supporting resources.

Both 5389 and 5318 offered manageable required reading selections, and I made it through all of them. If I could read 4 books in 6 weeks for Dr. Grogan, I could make anything happen. The only downside to the required reading in 5318 was that it was an ebook, and being a learner with an astigmatism in both eyes, it wasn't always the high point of my day staring at a screen for extended periods of time.

Met the various course activity deadlines indicated in the calendar.

With the exception of 5389, all activities and assignments were completed by the deadline provided in the calendar.

I am grateful to be in a program with so many transformative and supportive peers and professors. This is my second time working with Dr. Sue, and it is always an adventure and tons of discovery. This was my first time working with Dr. Bellard, and it was refreshing and wildly full circle to have he, who was once my residential director at Cardinal Village, now be my graduate professor. In our last meeting as a class, he graciously extended his availability to us as we continued our academic journey, even offering to serve on our dissertation committee if we were considering a doctoral program after this.

As this term ends, and the next begins, like tomorrow, lol! I remain focused and encouraged to finish strong and keep my why in mind when the light at the end of the tunnel dims.
