Blended Learning

How to Blend the Learning

Between these two TED Talks, I have been delivered!

"What else can we learn from these examples of innovation?" I tell my students before they create that everything was created by someone or "The One." As a digital design teacher, innovation and creation are the foundations of my content. However, I have had difficulty conveying this to my students and getting them to want to do and know more. Joi's quote, "Education is what people do to you and learning is what you do to yourself," is COVA! It is the idea that you, the student, are in control of your learning experience and outcomes. Use me, the teacher, as a guide through your academic journey and explore. Ask questions, make mistakes, collaborate, build, rebuild, create, recreate, disrupt, do it all.

My DLAC is always preaching about blended learning, but as a technology teacher, I have struggled with what blended learning looked like for me? My students do everything on the computer, and as a tree hugger, I think incorporating paper into my classroom is backward. But what I learned from Monique Markoff is that blended learning is just that, a blender of practices, strategies, and tools. Blended learning does not have to be paper and digital, it can be my instruction, how-to videos, suggested seminars, etc.

Both videos were helpful personally and professionally because I am definitely a planner to a fault, and when things start to get shaky, I panic. But I am learning to be more flexible and open to going with the flow. That is where the magic happens.
